Infant feeding

I'm currently breastfeeding my 21month old daughter several times a day- she does a lot of 'snack feeding' and at night- we usually co-sleep. I have not had a period since before my pregnancy- just a little concerned because everyone I know with children of a similar age started menstruating long ago, if not already pregnant again! I'm single, and not in any form of a relationship, so no possibility I'm pregnant, nor is it on the cards, unfortunately!
Does anyone have any advice, or ideas about how I could kick start my cycle into action again?

Hi lucsnowe
There was a thread about this recently...I am thinking of giving it a go!
I think the night feeding is the problem here

the frequency of milk removal is tied to when periods come back. I worked f/t but expressed 2x a day at work. when i dropped one of those sessions, my period came back. When dd was 13 mos. She also fed regularly when we were home together.

If you can get at least one stretch (day or night) where milk is not removed for at least 4 hrs, your period may come back.

Just because you are not having periods doesn't mean you are not ovulating.

"Just because you are not having periods doesn't mean you are not ovulating. "
I know what you mean but surely it's an indicator that it's fairly unlikely? I've heard the stories of women getting pg when bf and no periods, but is it that common? Also most of the time does it not mean they would ahve been 2 weeks away from a period anyway?
Good news about the 4 hour thing - that just might be possible (although I think it's probably happened in the past)

I don't know of any stats SPB. Just passing on what I have read. A few variables interplay when bfing and TTC. Another one is that while one may be ovulating, with or without periods, whether a viable pg will occur is another aspect.

I am just recalling what I have read a couple months ago in the LLL Answerbook so my info is certainly not comprehensive on this topic.

In my own experience, I knew I was ovulating at least 2 or 3 months before my periods started. I always feel my ovulation.

Thanks everyone. All your messages are really interesting. sometimes we do go for a 4 hour stretch without feeding, usually in the afternoon, between lunch and tea. I totally accept that the night feeding could be the prob. The only reason I'm concerned about menstruating is that it just does seem a bit strange not to be, and, I suppose,I'd like to think I'm fertile, even if
it's irrelevant!

not me. when my periods came back i found them an utter nuisance. i got caught out a few times as i so thoroughly enjoyed not dealing with them. and i have v. predictable and non eventful periods.
