Does my milk smell like your milk?

DP and I are going to a wedding and my sister will be looking after DD (4mo). There's enough EBM in the freezer to last the duration and BIL will prob do the bottles.

However, we were wondering... does my milk smell like my sister's milk? She is BF her 14month DD as well. If my sister gives my DD cuddles will my DD get confused because our milk smells the same?

Your baby will be able to tell the difference between yours and your sisters milk doesn't mean she will be that fussy though (mean that in a nice way honest)
It just made me think of my dd when she was a baby, there was a few of us in our circle of friends that had babies within a few months of each other and dd never cared about anyone elses milk except mine and one particulary friend who she was determained she was helping herself from (well she would have had she got the chance. )

I doubt she'll get confused. I don't think they literally only smell the milk, I think it's the whole body aroma(!) And there's more to you than your smell...there's also your appearance, your voice etc.

And if you and your sister are so similar that she does get confused, well that's kind of nice isn't it? Your DD will be all the more comfortable and secure in her presence

When I was really struggling with BFing DS and couldn't get him latched on properly, my sis came over to help. she was still feeding her 7mo old DS at the time and my DS went nuts and was doing that pecking bird thing when she took him from me to allow me to gather myself for having another attempt, so he could obviously smell the milk from her too.

I actually was at the stage of pleading with her to just feed him as the poor wee mite was starving and he wasn't getting what he wanted from me

Needless to say she wouldn't, and I still at the thought of how deperate I was

My DCs did the pecking bird thing with every boob they came across...including the odd man-boob

DS does the rooting thing with anyone - male, female...

Not sure about smells as I think I smell of stale milk

dd1 would latch on to dh's earlobe.

dd2 did the bird pecking thing and even tried to feed off her 3 year old sister - had a mouthful of t-shirt in approximately the right area before we could stop her!
