cow milk question

hi there,

my little one will be 1 year in few weeks and we will be switching from formula to cow milk. i am planning to give her whole organic cow milk. is that a good idea? any cons?

also, i love the practicality of formula. we can go anywhere with the little boxes that is enough for one bottle without needing a fridge. today i was looking in the supermarket and cow & gate (we use sma, but they dont make anything for 1+) makes a milk for 1+. should i use that when traveling our out? is there anything else better out there?

whole organic cows milk sounds fine. I didnt really need to take milk out with me as by the time my lo's were 1 they only had a morning and night feed so didnt have milk during the day. You could always take cold milk in a small flask or take a cup of milk in a cool bag if you were out and about and needed it. I never used formula much past a year at all.

A couple of years ago I went to a market research thing with a load of mums, all for c&g later stage milk which was going to be new to the market. At the time, they stated that it offered the convenience of formula, but had no added benefit over other milks. If this is still the case, I would switch to cows, I am sure it will be cheaper and also easier moving forwards.

BTW, DS is allergic to cows, so we do soya (not as easy, but not too bad).

I use whole milk - mostly organic but depends what they have. Dd has just turned one and like Seona she only has milk in the morning and before bed. For out and about she gets water in a tommee tippee first cup (no leaks into muy bag yet)

Hi Jabuti, i just use the normal whole milk i dont use organic but im sure there is not much difference in what you decide to use. Organic is fine im my opion. Also my DS only went on to have one milk feed in the morning and one at night but if we did take milk with is i used a nice cool box with a ice pack, this kept the milk nice and cold for hours just the same as it does his yoghurts now. My opion about the formular milk you can get for 1yr plus is thats is a waste of money and not necessary. Cows milk is exactly what they need.
However i may be wrong, im sure other MNers will advise soon.
