The Date - Monday 21st July
The Time - 12pm-2pm
Location - Palace Green outside the Cathedral in Durham City Centre map

I am organising this event, but I need some help - especially if you live in Durham - as I don't!

We need the following items:
An England flag
A Scottish flag
A rope

Someone willing to ask Costa Coffee/Starbucks or some such place whether they would be willing to accommodate us if the weather is bad.

I'll be posting soon how to join the mailing list.

Please sign in here if you are coming and/or are willing to help with the above!

hi bouncing - I can ask the gala theatre as much bigger than anywhere else - do we know how many people are expected?

don't have a flag or rope though I'm afraid...

BouncingTurtle · 11/07/2008 12:13

I'm not sure - maybe about 20 I hope! The Gala theatre sounds like a great suggestion and it is easy to get to!

what will we actually be doing in there so i can forewarn them - will we be having an actual picnic?

Report
BouncingTurtle · 11/07/2008 12:44

Mainly just having a picnic - but I guess they probably won't allow us to have our own food there.
The one thing we want to try and do is a photo of one mum & baby standing with Scottish Flag and the words "Protected" and another mum and baby with an England flag and the words "Not Protected". I'm going to contact the Northern Echo to see if they will report on it.

I'd love to be there, with my 2-year old (breastfed ) ds, but I'm working, and am rammed with meetings that day

I`d also love to be there, but probably wont be able to make it (sorry - looong awaited dentist appt). Good luck and have a fab time.

I would be interested / able to help with organising other things if you ever need a hand.

bouncing, I asked in the gala and they were a bit vague. Well, to be fair the boy was about thirteen and a half, but he said he thought it would be OK but his manager wasn't there so he couldn't say for definite - will ask again next week now I have a better idea of what's involved (didn't read your other messages until after I'd got back).

Not sure if I can make it myself actually as ILs will be here and I can't quite see my FIL shouting loud and proud about public breastfeeding!! Will see if I can smuggle DS at least off for a couple of hours..

I've got a scottish flag, but it's only a wee one (like the ones they have kiddies waving at royal visits etc)

and I think it's the lion rampant as opposed to the saltire

Am still up for coming, provided DH's work plans don't change!

Is there a park and ride, or will I be able to get close and park? or would I be better coming on the train?

Report
BouncingTurtle · 15/07/2008 15:29

Park and ride is good - come up the A1(M) and get off at J62 (A690 Durham). Turn right at the top for the Park & Ride - buses are every 10 mins, and cost £1.70. I would do that tbh, Durham is quite hilly and the train station is a little bit outside the centre. If you like, I can meet you at the Park n ride, I plan to get there about 11.30.
PM me on Facebook if you want to do that?

Hi,

I haven't checked my diary, but if I'm free I'll come - I'm still exclusively breasfeeding my 6 month old ds and more than happy to come along and do so in public as I think it's OUTRAGEOUS that we don't have the same protection.
BTW - anyone read the excellent piece on breastmilk v formula in New Scientist this week...
Gillian.

I will also use the park and ride so will try to get there around the same time.
