thats pretty much it im afraid... while pg with dd, i was advised 1 and only 1 ibuprofen was acceptable... no more than 2 in 12 hours.

Have you tried the cool and soothe sheets you can get for your forehead - i swear by them!

I was advised that the occasional nurofen was okay, if paracetamol really wasn't working but ds was nearly a year old then so not a tiny baby and not b/fing loads (don't know how old your baby is)

ibuprofen is fine (and recomended for mastitus) as long as you are not asthmatic or allergic to any of its ingredients.

(advice from HV who is also a bfc)

I took ibuprofen and still do when needed and I'm bf. Drs seem happy with that.

The only pain relief that is not recommended is aspirin. Otherwise you can take what you would normally take, in normal doses. In your case you could alternate paracetamol and ibuprofen. Paracetamol 2 tabs 4-6 hourly. Max dose 8 tabs per day. Ibuprofen 400mg ( 2x 200mg tabs or 1 x 400mg tab), 6-8 hourly. Max dose 1200mg per day. Hope you feel better soon.

If you're really badly off, even codeine is fine. I keep some in the house, in case I get a nasty cold and need to sleep.

have you got a blocked duct or possibly mastitis - usually accompanied with redness and swelling in one area? if you don't want to go the antibiotic route i would recommend homeopathic remedy by weleda called 'phytolacca'. it really helped me after getting mastitis 4 times. in the meantime very warm flannel and hold on the area or bath and lean on the side its affecting. savoy cabbage leaf in the bra is another remedy if you have any handy though this can absorb a lot of the milk so beware of reduction in supply. if the pain is in the nipple area maybe use nipple shields to feed and expose them to lots of fresh air to speed up the healing. hope you feel better soon xx

Hi, everyone, thanks for taking so much time and trouble to reply. I've been taking neurofen and although my temperature stayed at 40 overnight it has come down today, and I feel much better. The doctor came to see me today and we're both almost certain that I've got the 'flu, there is a lot of it about at the moment; I don't think it's mastisis as I've had it before and know my boobs feel fine compared to how they were then.

I just hope my little ones don't get it!
