Infant feeding

5 month old baby dropped from 25th to 9th percentile- help!

I've just been to get my DD weighed for the 1st time in ages (since early April) and she's gone from 12lb 4 oz to 13lb 2 oz. The HV has told me she has dropped down to the 9th percentile , and that I should return in 2 weeks for a further weigh. From birth she was on the 25th percentile.

She's fully BF'd but has always been a reluctant feeder- she feeds every 3/4 hours but often pulls away and screams. Winding helps sometimes but not always. My milk flow is quite fast and sprays in her face in the mornings, which can put her off. She often won't go back on the same side and will then settle on the other side, so I'm a bit worried about the possible lack of hindmilk. In the evenings though she'll feed for ages. She's also teething, which the HV said can reduce their appetite.

Apart from feeding she's quite a contented baby- she sleeps well and is very active during the day. She's also very long and is too long for most babygrows in the 3-6 month age. I'm just worried about how to up her intake, I've got lots of milk but she's not keen to drink too much of it. She'll scream or turn her head away if you try to get her to feed before she's ready. She hates bottles and I don't want to wean her early. Has anyone got any tips to encourage her to feed a bit more?

thanks

I think bf babies often dip a little on the charts at this age. She is probably more active and also, as you say, less interested in feeds as there is other stuff going on.

How about a bath together? My lo always latches on then even when not expected!

25% to 9% isn't very much though is it - I think the 9th is the next line down. Don't worry too much about 1 measurement.

I don't think my 5mo has put on much wt in last month, but as he is 2nd baby and otherwise fine I am not taking him to be weighed in case I'm in the same position!

Carry on bf, you are doing a great job
