Was it said in a nice wY?

I often get asked how long I'm intending to continue feeding ds2 (9 months) for. I also get "you've got your hands full!" a LOT (I have four children). None of it bothers me, I take it as people being interested.

However if someone ever said "that's disgusting" to me I would say a few choice words back

lol, I used to get that comment from about 8 weeks from my health visitor. I think she was the only one though.

It was said in a shocked way although not a nasty way if that makes sense.

What did you say?

"he's only been on a couple of minutes" that was my usual line.

You're lucky they waited so long - I've been getting it since my son was 3 months!

I like that wisknit! I just smiled and said ye in an 'of course' sort of tone.

Three months?! That's shocking! My SIL was on at me about dropping feeds now that he is weaning but I don't see what the big hurry is. I would rather let him do it in his own time.

Thank you.

Good for you being pleasantly dismissive of them.

It is a rite of passage

I remember my MIL commenting similar when dd was 19months, soon after MIL was doing some quiz and one of the questions was

  • how long does the WHO recommends mums should bf for?

I supplied the answer

dd2 is 8 months and a friend, who happened to b/f her own daughter until 13 months said in an "approving" way "oh have you stopped b/feeding now".

I think she has an issue because she is sad that she has now stopped, but I plan to continue fairly indefinitely.
