I know I am probably being overanxious, but am breastfeeding my 9 month son and realised have eaten swordfish which is high in mercury. Please has anyone any advice on whether I should stop breastfeeding. Kind regards Amanda

Thank you. Know it just says when you're pregnant to avoid it like the plague.

do not stop breastfeeding!

Swordfish can be high in mercury, which is why they recommend you don't eat it when you're pregnant, and suggest it might be a good idea to avoid it when breastfeeding.

However, one portion of swordfish is unlikely to contain enough mercury to even make it into the breastmilk, let alone affect the child, and the benefits of continuing to breastfeed outweigh by far any risk from the fish.

Good page here

Hope this helps
