ds is 8 days old, he is bfeeding really well now every 2 to 3hrs and then 11pm, 2am ish thru night and then 7am etc. I have fibally got him latched on really well but the damage to my nipples has already been done & its agony.....

the thing is i have now finally got the hang of latching on the damage has ben done, have got lansinoh, and nipple shields (nipples shields mess up his latch dont want to use them and it still hurts with them anyway)

what can I do???? I think they need a day just left alone to heal????

I think the best thing is to continue feeding. Toe-curling though, I remember well. Now that the latch is good then there should be no further damage.
You're doing really well, just hang in there.
I think leaving some breastmilk on the nipple to dry and sleeping without a bra are both meant to help.

Now that you have the latch sorted, with lansinoh your nipples should heal really quickly.

expressing some milk onto them and letting it dry and "airing" them as much as possible should all help the healing process O(lol childbirth and raising babies is such a dignified experience )

You've got over the worst bit and it really does get better from her on in.

I used nipple shields for a day to help the healing process when DD was only days old. Her latch was fine the next day and the pain was nearly gone making it much more comfortable.

Well Done

moist wound healing

take painkillers
keep feeding if you can otherwise you should express frequently
use lansinoh or kamillosan
keep the cracked area moist as it will heal more quickly

I had this a year ago and thought my nipple would never look the same again but it did heal (took about 2 weeks, it was a big gash) and I managed to keep bf
