Very sore breast. What is it?

Have been exclusively BF my 7 week old with no problems. Woke up last night with very sore left breast. Can't see any marks on it. Just very tender and sore. Hurts more when LO feeds. I feel ok apart from that. Anyone know what this is?

Do you have a temperature? If yes look up info about mastitis - not had it but understand it can make for sore boobs.

If no temperature then could be a blocked milk duct - try and get baby to feed on that side and that might help. If not try warm flannels and massaging around the area that is sore to see if you can move the blockage on. Will work its way through eventually.

If not that either and is more of a surface soreness then could be that you/baby has thrush (quite common). Look inside baby's mouth - think it is red patches on inside of cheeks. See health visitor or doctor for confirmation - they can prescribe stuff to help.

Hope this helps or bumps you up the list to someone that might know more!

Thanks Sam. I don't have a temperature so hopefully not mastitis. I'll check for thrush when she wakes up.
