Iv been trying to get my ds to drink his milk from a cup since he was 6months but he has always refused to drink it. It gets spat out then if i try when he's ment to be having a feed he screams the house down. He only has 3 bottles a day morning afternoon and b4 bed When iv tried in the afternoon not giving him his 4oz he's been really grumpy the rest of the day till dinner time. Im under alot of pressure as im now 4 months pregnant again so mentioned this to midwife she said i should do it now but im worried if i do it too fast and the baby comes he might wanna Go back on them. Please help im so confused i want someone to tell me im not harming him letting him still have a bottle i really just wanna let him drop it himself but will he do that?

I've got 4dc who were all bottle fed. None of them had a bottle once they reached their 1st birthday. tbh i had no bother with any of them i just gave them a cup and they accepted it. Try giving juice in a cup instead of milk. They don't need bottles from 1 year old but i see many children with bottles well over this age so its not really a problem i don't suppose. When he's older it may be harder to get the bottle off him. If you want to stop bottles then just stop and he'll get used to it very quickly, atm he knows he'll eventually get a bottle, once he realises you mean business he'll soon learn. However, if you still want to continue with bottles then that's your choice also. Don't be put off just because others say he shouldn't be having bottles. Do what you feel is right for you and ds

Jenfr23 we found the the only cups DS would originally drink milk from (he'd drink other drinks from anything) was an Avent sippy cup, so we went onto those, until he was used to them, and then gradually introduced other cups.

Just keep offering it. It takes a while for them to get the hang of it. Ds1 got the hang of it around 16 months. Ds2 (8 months) is trying but still can't get it.

I have a two year old nephew that still has bottle, and refuses a cup. Don't worry.

No trouble. none of mine drink milk, but all have plenty cheese, yogurt, milk cereal. Don't get too hung up with the amounts of everything that's recommended they have. Good varied diet is best and should suffice

Mine will drink water from a cup, but not milk. I have tried her loads of times but she refuses.

I give her a bottle before bed, and then clean her teeth. She has one in the morning as well.

Not sure why it is meant to be such a big bad thing, as long as they aren't left to just randomly suck from it, and clean teeth afterwards

Think its the comfort issue, don't want them getting attached and hooked on bottles - they just get attached and hooked on dummies instead!!
