Infant feeding

BF was fine with ds- now pg with dc2, will it be ok this time too?

I had a relatively easy time with ds, he's now 3. It hurt like buggery for the first 8 weeks but after that there was no problem at all, apart from a very minor mastitis incident. He was exclusively breastfed on demand and self weaned at about 18 months.

I'm now pregnant with our second baby and just wondered if I can expect things to be so relatively easy again- or is it like starting all over? What's driving this is that would be absolutely devastated if bf went tits up (!) this time round.

Does anyone have any opinion on this?

No personal experience as i bottle fed my 4, but my friend breast fed her 3 and found each to be different feeders. However, she said you get better, more relaxed etc as you get more experienced so i imagine you'll be fine

Hi Minkus

I had quite a few problems bfing DD (nearly 2) but after 10 wks it was fine and she was also exclusively demand fed (I had to wean her at 18mths as it was too painful due to being pregnant). DS is now 4 wks old and so far we haven't had any problems at all.
I agree with FBC, this time round I am more relaxed and have a better idea of what to expect with bfing and have a better idea of when the latch isn't right, what to do to relieve engorgement etc.

I have to say this time round my boobs settled down instantly as well whereas with DD I was leaking huge amounts for weeks and weeks
