My 10 day old is breast-fed but does frequent smelly poos. Thought they weren't meant to smell on breast milk? He pongs god bless him. He also seems to get bad wind. Any idea? I'm avoiding cauliflour etc.

Hmm, I don't mind how bf poo smells so much. Thing is, it's poo. And it's not immersed in water (which does cover the smell, trust me, I know, DS2 doesn't like to poo in the toilet, only the potty, at the moment ), so it does smell some.

But compared to post-weaning poos, these early ones are practically floral.

my DSs bf poos smelled like popcorn, but DD (6mo) smells like well rotted brussell sprouts. Tis not nice, but I got used to it. She was also a 12 poo a day baby till she hit five/six weeks, then she went to a mahoosive one every two or three days.

It will get better

Now, perhaps I had the highest possible dose of "isn't my baby fantastic" hormones after I had ds, but I LIKED the smell of his poos. They were sweet and quite like yogurt.

Am I weird?

I also loved the smell of the little milky burps that he did.

But he's 2 now and burps and farts and poops just don't have the same appeal.

Milky breath is the best smell , coming in just after newborn head smell...

DS had yogurty poo - still fairly fruity tho!

With you on the new-born head smell but his poos smell yeasty. Cookie dough I could handle! At least I know when he needs changing.

DD2's poo smelt all vanilla-y and gorgeous! Except on a 2 week trip round southern spain when I ate loads of jamon and it smelt, er, rather porky .

Stinks now she's on solids of course

Well the MW recommended that I stop drinking so much orange squash as she thought it might be upsetting the babies tummy. I have and I am sure that the poos are slightly less smelly (either that or I am just becoming immune)and certainly less frequent. The guilt!
