another boring 'is it time yet?' thread, sorry!

Right, here's the situation. My nevertheless gorgeous 5 month old dd (tomorrow!) feeds religiously every 3 hours through the day and 4 at night. Mummy's fairly knackered. I've been putting off weaning so far but will I be strong enough to wait 4 more weeks ? Please give me strength or... tell me what will make her sleep through ! She's breastfed and won't take the bottle yet. Would a few spoonfuls of milk rice before bedtime help (I know it's less calorific than milk, I know...)?

it might - or might not.

If I tell you that my presumably equally gorgeous DS who is nearly 9 months has a bowl of weetabix for tea every evening as well as other meals and about 4 breastfeeds a day still wakes for a feed in the night, it might answer your question!

some babies sleep through, some don;t

and often there is nothing you can do

also, sometimes, solids can disrupt the sleep pattern even more

keep on giving lots of milk, it is more calorific, nutritious and filling than wallpaper paste baby rice

Yes, my daughter is 9 months, breastfed c. 4 times a day plus 3 (small) solid-y meals (including plenty of porridge for supper), and she still wakes up 2-3 times a night. So about every 3-4 hours.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it doesn't get any easier and my body doesn't seem to be getting used to surviving on broken sleep.
But equally, you're not alone - some consolation ?

I know a couple of Mums who swear that their babies started sleeping through the second they gave solids, so if you want to then give it a try. Guidance used to be to wean at 4 months and didn't seem to cause anyone any problems.
