Recommendation for paediatrician in SE London

Hi there

Our baby seemingly has terrible reflux and as such we want to get him fully diagnosed by a private paediatrician. Does anyone have any recommendations in SE London please?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Can't help you with a private Paediatrician unfortunately, I'm not sure many see many private patients.

I maybe able to help with the reflux though. How old is baby and do any of the symptoms sound like these?

I recommend you look for a private lactation consultant to check for tongue tie first.

Have you been to the GP?

Can I ask what you've tried so far as well @NWC8520?

@JiltedJohnsJulie

Can I ask what you've tried so far as well *@NWC8520*?

We had a couple sessions with the lactation consultant, the latch on and the oversupply have got better. But the baby still unsettled, being gassy and arching his back and neck. We just wanted him to be checked and get a proper diagnosis with treatment.

I can totally understand, especially after having a baby with reflux type symptoms myself.

With us, it turned out to be Tongue Tie, which I'd never heard of until joining MN, which is really why I posted the link to the symptoms for you.

The usual causes for reflux Troy's symptoms are Tongue Tie or Cow's Milk Protein Allergyy*. It really is worth getting him assessed properly for Tongue Tie before seeing a Paediatrician as it would be a rare Paed who could diagnose it properly. No disrespect to Paediatricians.

If you have oversupply, are you getting these symptoms?

And if you're struggling tonight, I'd give one of the BFing Helplines a call. Have you got the numbers?

Please be careful seeking out someone private and make sure they also practice in NHS. Some friends of mine saw a private consultant for the same reason and he was a complete cowboy who gave them dreadful (possibly harmful) advice

You might be better with a private gastroenterologist. Plenty in S London who work privately and for nhs.

Have you tried infant gaviscon? Is your baby gaining weight?

I would see your GP and push for a referral to an NHS paediatrician, much more reliable, the NHS would not employ someone without proper registration and paed specialty qualifications and they would be part of a large team ( anyone could set themselves up privately, with no checks, governance etc...they would be acting in a sole role, not a situation that would generate confidence for me, quite the opposite, in fact). Hope you get whatever the problem is sorted out.

It can be tricky when they won't take a bottle-how old is she?

I can totally recommend Dr Ed Abrahamson. We saw him at Bupa Cromwell Hospital, but I believe you can get an appointment at other hospitals as well. He was knowledgable, kind and spot on with his diagnosis. If you read the online reviews, you will see that he is amazing.

Dr Daniel Crespi is a paediatric GI consultant but in North London...he does video consults though if that's any help. If you Google him, you can find his website.
