Infant feeding

Can a 2 week old eat too much?

Our two week old is drinking 80ml and has barely lasted 3 hours between feeds over the past few days. She is exclusively bottle fed
Prior to this she was eating more like 70ml every 4 hours
Is this normal? How much do your 2w old feed?

There's a growth spurt at 2 weeks so it's pretty normal for them to take some extra formula and it may only last a few days or she may carry on.

If you think you are over feeding her, you need to weigh her.

She should be having roughly 74 ml (2.5 floz) per pound in weight over 24 hours. So if she's 8lb, she would be having roughly 600 ml (20 floz) in 24 hours.

They can also do a "finding their centile" thing where the can drift up or drift down to a centile and stay their.

If you're worried though, you can speak to your HV. At 2 weeks though I'd wouldn't try and space out feeds or reduce them without speaking to her first.

I have a 5 week old. She was downing 100ml/4oz every 2.5 hours at 3 weeks. Babies take in what they need. My girl is now on 140 ml/5oz every 3-4 hours. My DD1 was on less, maybe 90ml every 3 hours, at 2 weeks.

She has a lot of growing to do, she's going to need all of that milk!
Growth spurts feel like you never stop feeding them, and then all of a sudden they don't fit into their clothes any more.
