Infant feeding

End of breastfeeding

My son is 11.5 months - his birthday is in 14 days - and he seems to be on a sort of nursing strike for the last week or so. He really doesn't want to nurse at the moment and I'm only managing to get a few very short feeds into him. I'm persevering at the moment with trying to encourage him to feed and giving him extra water as it's so hot.

He's been exclusively breastfed until now but we've had a long tough journey to get this far and we both very much have a love/hate breastfeeding relationship. I'm thinking this might be a natural time to wean him off the breast. He's so close to being 12 months I'm wondering if I can skip formula and head straight to cow's milk?

Well done on getting this far, an amazing achievement.

I'd go straight to cows milk, obviously if he won't take breast then offer cows milk, but if he will take breast again I'd swap some breastfeeds for cows milk and slowly transition. I wouldn't bother with formula, just make sure he takes a multi vitamin!

Well done! I just stopped too. My DS a little older but he has cows milk and my eldest was on cows milk from 12 months so I'd go for cows milk.

Thanks, cow's milk was my instinct as well! I'm sad we seem to be reaching the end of our breastfeeding journey but slightly relieved as well!
