Any tips for really windy 6 week old?

Hiya,

I'm really struggling to ease my 6week ds wind problem. He has been a windy baby pretty much since birth, the only effective way we found of getting wind up was when on scbu and to literally suck it out of his stomach tube with a syringe- clearly not the answer, I know! But seems to be keeping him awake or waking him at night.

I'm bf and wandered if there was anything i could drink/eat which could help?

Any suggestions would be greatly appretiated to help my boy burp!

Thanks xx

Try lying him on his back on your lap and "bicycling" his legs. It really helped ease my DDs wind when she was that age and also I think the "jiggling" it makes soothes them a bit too. I could sit for about 30 mins at a time doing that of an evenign (when it was really bad) and watch a bit of telly too. HTH!

Also, many people swear by drinking fennel tea (you, not baby) to ease wind. dunno if it works though, but might be worth a try

my ds is also very windy and causes him real pain, he's 7 weeks now and for the last two weeks we have been using gripe water which has helped him loads, he now feeds (bf) and then has gripe water and about a min later we get a big burp.

HV mentioned gripe water but was told by clearly misinformed friend yest that he is still too young, will go get some though. Willing to try everything, as it seems to make him quite sicky too. Just thrown up all over me- deep joy!

Another vote for gripe water here. We give our six week old a teaspoon before each feed and have done since he was a week old (only gave half a teaspoon then) and I think it's been beneficial. Also, we took him to an osteopath and I've noticed a difference in him as well. Seems much more comfortable and less prone to things being as bad as they were previously as he was really very 'windy'

have you tried avoiding dairy products?
This really makes a difference IME. Cut them out completely for a few days then try eating a bit and see what happens. It's a pain if, like me, you love cheese but the baby should hopefully be over the windy stage in a few weeks

Brought back some tea from Germany (search e bay for breastfeeding tea-sorry bad pluck). On top of Fennel which is good against wind it includes caraway and aniseed both natural tummy settlers. I had the same trouble with DD and 2 cups a day sorted me out. On top of that I massaged her tummy with Carawayseed oil mixed with olive oil. They made it up in a pharmacy in Germany. Napier's might do it in Britain.
