Help, any HVs around, I've run out of formula...

I've got one bottle left for tonight and then I'm all out....usually a bit more organised this is the first time its ever happened. DD is 9 mo, can she have a bottle of ordinary milk for breakfast tomorrow till I can get to the shops? All 3 DC in bed and no DH tonight so no chance of getting out.

As a one off I really don't think it would be a problem. Has she had cows milk in breakfast etc?

HEaven forbid I put my DS onto cows milk when he was 10 months old. He survived. She'll be okay. Didn't dare to tell my HV though

Yes she has a lot of yoghurt, cheese and cows milk on porridge so hasn't got an allergy, I was just worried it might be too much in one go as it will probably be a whole bottle, she tends to get hungry at about 6.45 and i can't get to shops till after school run.
Thanks for reassurance. [relieved emoticon]

Yeah - go for it if she's had yogurt etc. Cow's milk is unsuitable at this age only because it doesn't have the right balance of nutrients - as a one off it won't hurt. The only thing you may find is that she won't like it as formula (and breast milk) are sweeter than cow's milk. Could you give her a drink of something else and yogurt/porridge etc until you have time to get to the shops? I'm not a HV either, by the way!

Would it be really bad of me to suggest sweetening it up with a bit of sugar? Just as a once-off obviously!

Can i do that? It crossed my mind but i wasn't sure it was allowed , will try it if all goes horribly wrong, there's sugar in PF so i guess its all the same, she does like sweet stuff, including fruit of course

She might be ok with it. I tried some cows milk in a cup with my ds at 9mo to see whether he'd take it in preparation for starting nursery next month. He drank it quite happily.

I wouldn't sweeten it, just heat it and see how it goes.

when I was young, formula fed babies went onto boiled cows milk at 6 months old! So I really don't think one bottle at 9 months is any issue, particularly if she is fine with it in cooking/yoghurt etc;.

She guzzled it down like a poppet, no problems at all. Mind you she was so fast asleep she probably would have had anything. Draind the bottle so no problem with taste. thank you all for your help, once again god bless mumsnet....and goodnight
