Tongue tie? Milk? Colic? Bottles?(3 Posts)
I have an almost 5wk baby girl, she was born at 37wks by caesarean (if that info makes a difference?)
She fed fine in hospital on the ready made cow and gate bottles (with the flat sided teat). However, when we got home 5 days later, I started making up feeds using tommee tippee closer to nature bottles. Instantly she didn’t take to them, it seemed and sounded like she couldn’t latch on properly. She makes a clicking kind of noise when sucking. I tried slow flow and medium flow teats but neither made any difference at all.
I thought because she had got on fine with the pre made bottles in hospital, I’d try the nuk bottles with the flat sided tears. Again she made the same sound whilst sucking and it took her a very long time to drink even an ounce of milk! So we went back to tommee tippee with the slow flow teats.
When I mentioned the above problems with my HV she said that maybe baby is tongue tied - but didn’t look!?
For the past couple of weeks now, because she isn’t latched on properly, she is producing lots and lots of bubbles in her bottle whilst feeding, this is causing her a great deal of wind that she then struggles to bring up. I’ve tried infacol, but it doesn’t seem to help. She doesn’t settle at all, and cries so much between her feeds. She falls asleep half way through the bottle, I then try and change her to wake her up or put her down until she wakes up in what seems a combination of hunger and pain.
She only poos once every 2 days, when she does it is like diarrhoea. After she’s been though, she seems settled and content for a few hours.
She is currently in cow and gate first milk and taking roughly 5oz every 3-4hrs.
Definitely speak to your HV or GP who should be able to refer your baby but if the wait is long, you can get it done privately. In the meantime, try mam bottles as they tend to work better for TT babies. Good luck! X
Thank you so much for your reply! I am going to make an appointment to see gp this week. I will definitely try mam bottles - fingers crossed they work!
