Ladies I need some advice or help please, my neat 5 month old on waking up at 6 is only taking about 2oz or 3 at a push I the morning his other bottles through the day are fine as I leave him 4 hours a time now and he will have a 5oz maybe 6 sometimes. It’s just the morning ones. Also his last bottle at night about half 9 20 he’s doesn’t want much either we have to try and get some down him. Any one have any ideas at all why?? He does sometimes wake at 2 half 3 in the morning or sometimes 4 but I just put his dummy in and he goes back to sleep should I be feeding him if he wakes?? Only thing I don’t want him getting used to it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you first time mum.

My DC were never big milk drinkers first thing in the morning, I used to calculate how much they were getting over a 24 hour period rather than one feed, and if they were gaining weight okay.

My 4 month baby will hardly ever finish her first morning bottle and its been 9 hours without a feed.
She will take about 3 or 4oz. Then goes every 4 hours-ish ask takes 5 or 6oz.
She has about 25-27oz per day.
I wouldnt feed in the night as the dummy is sending your baby back to sleep so it wont be hunger.
My baby is the same as goes back off with the dummy - if shes hungry the dummy wont settle her

That’s the for at bottle this morning he took a 3 left him 4 hours and he’s again only taken a 3 oz when he normally takes a 5, don’t know what’s the matter with him, yesterday he only had 23 oz a day and today I think it be less as he’s only had 6 from both feed😞

That sounds fine to be honest - if he is happy and alert and wet nappies he will be taking what he needs.
My DD used to only take 20oz a day until recently! It used to worry me sick but shes just not a hungry baby i guess. All the formula tins say she should be having 5 lots of 7oz bottles... no chance! She wouldnt have that much

They go up and down phases with milk.

Key points are- wet/dirty nappies, mood and alertness. If they all seem normal then theres no need to panic.

The formula tins are a guidance, not set in stone.

Mines never drunk 35oz in a day and only started taking 7oz around late 6ish/7 months. My friends babies were drinking more and more often. Mines still put on weight well and held her own.

If you're really concerned, can you phone your health visitor?

Yeah he used to take about 30 or more a day but now he’s not taking half as much. He’s happy and content and still has wet nappies but I didn’t think was a lot to be honest.

HV is out tomorrow to see him but she just seems to say oh it’s just a growth spurt and that’s it so was just wondering others experiences
