Why do you think you need to?

I think food that increases your breastmilk is known as a galactalogue - so you can look this up in Google.

The only thing that I recall as having a major effect was booze, but this is probably not something to recommend

Do oats really increase breast milk supplies ???

Kittenbaby - why do you feel your supply is low?

Report

I read somewhere that cheese and other proteins pass through into your milk making it not so much more, but more satisfying. I think it was that Baby Whisperer woman that said it

Most effective way to increase supply is to feed more.

hi thanks for all the tips
my little babe is 6 weeks old on wednesday and im still feeding her constantly, you may or maynot remember me from prev threads but the first two visits i had from hv she told me to top up with formula
then on the last visit she told me to make her wait 2 and a half hours betwen feeds
she told me to put her upstairs and let her cry for 2 and a half hours and that i should just put my ear plugs in,at this point dd was only 4 weeks old
shes given me loads of shit advice
also told me to give her boiled and cooled water
she calls bfeeders the lonney left wing bf bridage
told me to use vasaline on nappy rash that made it worse, then sudocrem that made it worse, then dr had to give dd dakatcort where as if id not follwed her advice about the nappy rash im sure it wouldnt of been anywhere near as bad i should of asked on mn about the nappy rash
im so glad i didnt follow her advice about the feeding
im sure it would of stopped me bf by now
so i just thought id try everything in my power to try and increase my supply.

Your HV is a lunatic - stop seeing her and, when your baby's a bit bigger, report her.

If you overincrease your supply, you run the risk of mastitis, so as long as you're happy that your baby's producing a fair number of wet and dirty nappies (several wet ones a day, dirty ones will vary depending on baby by this age), she's alert, etc, etc then she's fine.

Feed her as and when she wants - you say she's feeding all the time - how often, do you think? How long does she usually feed for? Any periods during the day where she feeds more than others?

Nuts definitely help. Something to do with the good fats assisting with Breast milk supplies.

my useless pg brain means I can't remember if you ever got to your bf cafe to see a proper BF counsellor, kitten - if you did, what did they say?

Agree jsut feed more

Also drink more water- just occasionally that helps (well it did me though I exist in a permanent state of dehydration due to water aversion), and in the hot weather that might help

But YOU not the baby

my little babe is 6 weeks old on wednesday and im still feeding her constantly which is great to get your supply established and normal- well done you!,

you may or maynot remember me from prev threads but the first two visits i had from hv she told me to top up with formula absolutely the worst thing you can do as reduces babies desire to suckle, and therefore prevents adequate milk being made

then on the last visit she told me to make her wait 2 and a half hours betwen feeds no, especially in hot weather baby will feed on demand- int his weather for example your milk will be ideally suited to quench thirst and baby will need mroe.

she told me to put her upstairs and let her cry for 2 and a half hours and that i should just put my ear plugs in complain to her manager. Now

,at this point dd was only 4 weeks old
shes given me loads of shit advice
also told me to give her boiled and cooled water ditto top up feeds- can reduce suply not help it

she calls bfeeders the lonney left wing bf bridage again, a complaint is extremelya ppropriate in thsi case

You'redoing so amazingly, continuing with that sort of piffle masqueradinga s support! Well done you, feel proud of yourself

RE weight gain, if she seems alert has wet nappies and is gaining then should be OK, sounds like you're doing wonderfully despite your confidence being knocked. Do remember that one eprsons feeding constantly is another ones nott oo often- entirely sunbjective.

at your HV!!!

Your LO is so lucky to have a Mum like you who is strong enough to rise above all the nonsense and do what is right for you both.

Totally agree with everyone else - you HAVE to complain about her - she sounds horrendous and what's more scary is I bet there are Mums out there taking her advice!!!

I really hope things get a little easier for you, but your DD is a very very lucky girl!
