following on from my www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1364&threadid=365544&stamp=070803192003 other thread, I think I've figured it out now.

Besides the whole not-feeding-during-the-day thing-but-still-looking-hungry, he's biting everything he can get his hands on, sucking his own little fingers incessantly, and is covered in drool down to his moobies. Do we think teething? Is that likely to make him not feed so well/much?

And if so, can I dose him with calpol to see if it helps him feed better during the day???

Could be teething pain at 16 weeks, my DD popped teeth out at 5 months and the worst pain seems to be before the teeth are actually visible.

DD did this from about 3 months - exactly what you describe on your other thread. Health visitor suggested teething combined with a new interest in the world, which meant she wasn't as keen to feed for ages as she had been, and more efficient (and hence more speedy) drinking!

I tried putting a little teething gel on the gums before feeding (although I'd read that this can affect how they feed). Sometimes it worked, but not always. Easy to say now, but I just went with it and tried not to worry. It did pass, even though it was another couple of months before the teeth appeared - like LizaRose, the pain seemed worse before they popped through.

So perhaps try gel before calpol?

oh that's a good idea, thanks

my sister also thought increased interest in the world, but he doesn't seem to be looking around, just not wanting to feed, even if he appeared hungry. I wouldn't worry so much except that something is bothering him and if it's not that he's hungry I don't know what the prob is!

will go out and get some gel, see if that helps...

no I just think babies are mad
mine has gone bonkers again
just when you think you've got them sorted, they do something else unpredictable.

actually, does sound like teething to me, just sulking about my ridiculous baby
