I swapped my boy onto MAM due to colic and we love them.
I've used them with my TT perfect prep, but I've had a nightmare with machine and had three faulty ones in two weeks!!
I've had enough and not using it no more.

On the MAM bottles it says not to pour boiling water in, but who can wait 30 mins for kettle to cool and then cool in water with a screaming baby 😩
Does anyone use MAM and put boiling water in straight from kettle? And how do you cool without bottle sucking water up through the holes? I've seen to take hole lid, test and neck off to put in water to stop suction, but not sure if the bottle will be safe?

Sorry....first time mum, stressing my tits off with the TT machine and now don't want to go against manufacturers of bottles 🙈🙈🙈 majorly sleep deprived too 😩😩

You don't need to wait 30 minutes, just long enough for it not to be boiling, so a few minutes.

Yes we put boiling water in ours. We put ours in boiled then chilled water upside down to cool. Water will go in the cap but not through the teat

I put boiling water in. Just enough to mix the formula into and then topped up with cool boiled water. The mixture of boiling and cooled boiled made a perfect temperature bottle. I also had a perfect prep which was fab, sorry yours isn't working.

We used to do a shot of boiling water, add the powder and swill, and then top up with cooled boiled water so it was drinking temperature. So if the volume was meant to be 150ml, we did something like 40ml boiling and 110ml cool - those were not the exact volumes so don't try this!

I use mam bottles and if I'm out and about I do what other people have suggested about topping up with cooled boiled water - just the same way a perfect prep does.

If I was making a 5 oz bottle I'd put in 2oz just boiled, add formula, shake then add in 3oz of cooled boiled water (I'd have this in another bottle), shake then it should be perfect temperature for drinking.

You can cool the mam bottles the old fashioned way by putting them in cold water but just make sure you take the lid off and teat so the water doesn't get drawn up into the air holes.

Thanks everyone 😊 I'm going to keep cool boiled water I think and do it as you have suggested. I'm so fed up with preps! New one arrived today, set it up and it was bloody smoking and got hot to touch 🤬

Just a note - I didn't wait long enough once for the water to cool slightly and the bottle bottom exploded off and burnt all my arm. Thank God I wasn't holding DD.

My own bloody fault, but just be cautious!

I've put boiling water in my MAM bottles plenty of times with no problems. Also, I give them to my little one at room temperature, so I allow the water to cool completely and store them in a cupboard rather than the fridge. Never had any issues with doing this and my DS is nearly 7 months old.

@chuttypicks as long as the water is hotter than 70 degrees when it mixed with the powder you will kill any potential nasties in the powder, which is not sterile. Then store in the coldest part of the fridge if not using straightaway.

Not sure what stage you're putting your bottles in the cupboard?

Hi Op - we use MAM and don’t have perfect prep machine.

We make up 2-3 bottles at a time morning and evening. I know it’s not exactly as per NHS guidance but neither is the PP machine!

Boil kettle, wait 20-30 mins, make up formula, take lid and teat off and flash cool using these ice pack sleeves (takes 10 mins): Vacu Vin Rapid Ice Can Cooler - Silver www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0001MEKAS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_y4O0CbS1HSWWV?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

Store at back of fridge, reheat for 30 seconds in the microwave with the lid off and give it a good shake before feeding.

I use mam bottles, we put in 1 oz of boiling water to make the feed and mix, then add in cool water to top it up

Hey hope you don’t mind, I use mam bottles & put boiling water in then add formula. My teats keep blocking, do you get this?x

My mam bottles occasionally block but it's because I've not mixed properly. It take a spoon and then a shake for me because the bottom bit has notches.. just make certain it's fully dissolved, before giving a good shake

I could be wrong, but I think the reason you shouldn't put boiling water in plastic bottles is that harmful chemicals can be released from the plastic at that temperature.

We use MAM with the PP machine so it seems to take boiling water okay.

So sorry yours has broken! I think I would die!

@PopcornZoo MAM bottles are BPA free so fine for microwave and hot water.
