Growth spurts and supply

Hi everyone,

My baby girl is 14 weeks old and is EBF. I am wondering if possible that she is going through a growth spurt, over the past few days she is suddenly wanting to feed 24/7 aswell as waking up twice in the night for food. She was sleeping through before. I pump each day and before I was able to get around 5oz easily, which she would have in a bottle that evening. Since these issues started I have barely been able to get 2.5oz. Is this due to the fact she is feeding constantly? So on the rare spare moment I get to pump, the milk hasn’t been reproduced quite yet?

I feel like I am so close to giving up and switching to formula, even though I desperately don’t want to. I just feel like my baby isn’t getting enough? She has been very consistent with weight gain and is very healthy.

Yup- growth spurt and sleep regression often occur around 16 weeks (was she late/early?) and yes it can be bloody hard to get any time to pump when you’re feeding constantly.
Don’t give up- you’ve done so so well to get to this stage. She IS getting enough and this is completely normal. If you’re on FB look for yummy mummy breastfeeding page as there’s lots of support there (it can be a little harsh...but not as scary as AIBU!)

Your supply should be well established by now and nothin good you’ve said indicates that you have a problem, it all sounds like normal baby behaviour.

This sounds perfectly normal.
She's just putting her order in for her new sized body and brain development.
It sounds like you are doing really well, and that your supply is good.
Breastfeeding yummy mummies on fb really helped me understand what was going on.

Also, how much you can express is no indication of how much you produce. Your baby will be far more efficient at getting milk out than any pump.

By this stage your milk supply will be more in tune with your babies needs too.

But like I said, I'd talk this through with a BFC on one of the Helplines, especially if you are thinking of giving up.
