I have a 4week old exclusively BF baby. As I am so knackered want to express some BM for my DP to give I tried to express the other day and got nothing then have done it today for 30 mins the same amount of time my DS feeds for and got 2oz is this an ok amount? Am worried that maybe my DS is not getting enough when he feeds. He sleeps well at night and feeds roughly every 3 hours during the day. Does this all sound normal am having a bit of a worry about my supply and whether or not he is getting enough.

Sleeping wellat night and feeding every 3 hours sounds perfectly OK. Is he having lots of wet and mustardy dirty nappies?

Expressing doesn't give you as much "output" as a feeding baby so it's not a guide of how much your baby is getting.

Every 3 hours is great. Sounds perfectly normal. Expressing is less efficient than a baby and takes a bit of practice to find the best time and method for you. 2 oz at a time is pretty good!

I find first thing in the morning is often best.

julie - will it help, do you think, to join up with a bf support group and get support and friendship from other bf mums?

It's likely to allow you to hear other experiences.

Expressing for the same time as the baby feeds is not the same as breastfeeding! Please, please don't even think about judging your supply with what comes out with the pump!

Your baby is doing very well, and in fact many babies are nothing like as predictable and settled at four weeks as he seems to be
