Week 6 and still struggling with BF :((4 Posts)
Has anyone else struggled with breastfeeding second time around? I fed DD1 for 14months and had no problems. My baby is now 5 weeks and ive had a whole host of things which I'm now so upset over I'm considering stopping:
Powerful letdown causing baby to get distressed/windy. This happens when I feed but also at regular random intervals in the day. The pain is so bad I need to take myself away for a moment - can't talk through it.
Pain when expressing (HV advised to express a small about before feeds)
Painful breasts and nipples when feeding
Mastitis (currently on ABx)
Baby not taking full feeds, and feeling like I have to convince her to feed
When she takes the bottle (she has one of EBM every few days) she seems so much happier, which breaks my heart.
I would have expected this stuff to have been overcome by week 6 but I'm at my wits end and really not enjoying feeding which is really upsetting me and I want her to have the same BF experience has DD1.
Has anyone else struggled second time around? I naively thought it would be a breeze.
Yes me! Just been moaning on another thread as I’m on the brink of mastitis for second time in a week. I fed my first for 2.4years, but it wasn’t always plain sailing either and I don’t think I can go through months of this again - just don’t have time to tend to my breasts all the time.
I also have oversupply and powerful let down, both my DDs have had tongue ties also. I’m assuming yours has been checked for tongue tie?
I’m also thinking about stopping but don’t know how I would even do that without further mastitis etc. I am resolved if I get through this episode intact that I will take more steps to correct the oversupply. First time I never could have countenanced stopping, but now I feel a bit more confident I have other ways to soothe her and don’t feel it would affect our relationship in the way I would have feared last time.
to you. It’s so so miserable and I know how upsetting it is, it seems so unfair that it’s not just straightforward.
So sorry to hear that you are struggling. I think you may need some RL support with all of this, especially as you’re in pain.
I’d start with calling one of the BFing Helplines, now if you can to give you a chance of speaking to a BFC today.
Sorry, didn’t see your post Mere. If you give one of the BFing Helplines a call too they should be able to help you through the Mastitis and talk to you about how to stop BFing
