Trouble with solids

My dd turned 1 last week and for about a month now she's been refusing food she used to love. When we first weaned her she would eat everything and now she's throwing 90% of what I offer on the floor and will only reliably eat cheese, cucumber, bread or toast, all fruit and yogurt. The rest is either licked/nibbled slightly and thrown. I've tried everything. She's a good weight and is still bf so I'm not overly worried about nutrition but I just don't know how to get her to eat a variety again. Does anyone have any tips or has anyone else been through similar with their dc?

I think the main thing to do is not stress and keep offering. You don't want them to have any negative food associations. In my experience there is very little you can do to get them to eat something they don't want!

Ok I will just keep offering then! She's bound to give it a go at some point I hope.

It's tough going when they throw your lovely home cooked food on the floor with barely a sniff! My lo went through a very long phase of only eating plain meat and beige carbs 🤦‍♀️ But he's fab now. You'll get there!

It's good to know it won't last forever. I had visions of her going to primary school and still only eating cucumber and cheese!

Now she’s one, you can offer BFs after the meal, not before, so this might encourage her to eat a little. Are you doing many feeds at night?

I agree though, keep offering and really don’t worry if she doesn’t eat it. The worst thing you can do is toboffer an alternative. Just assume she’s not hungry if she’s not eating.

DS1 did the same at that age but is now 2.5 and a champion eater. It’s a phase so just keep calm, keep offering and don’t give attention for doing it.

She only has a bf in the day before each of her 2 naps, rarely has any extras. She also had one before bed and then does feed in the night but it's a quick 5 minutes of comfort rather than her taking lots of milk. She drinks water in the day too. I'll just keep offering.

It might be worth trying Dr Jay Gordon’s night Weaning method now she’s one. Having less in the night might help you and it might encourage her to eat more in the day Smile

I remember this well. Took me weeks to get over the anxiety that she'd live on cubed cheese and milk.

She's eating amazingly at nursery and her variety is almost back at home too.

Stick with it and try not to stress at all. Keep the variety in what you offer and lower the standards of cleanliness of the kitchen floor 😬
