Bottle fed two week old

Just wanted a bit of advice on if I’m doing the right thing. DS2 is 2 weeks old and formula fed. I BF DS1 so haven’t done this before. He was taking 3oz, now he takes anything between 3 and 4oz - sometimes he will completely finish a 4oz bottle.
We changed to size 2 teats at day 12 as he was taking over an hour to feed, getting frustrated and falling asleep. He has coped ok with these although more wind and sick which I’m hoping is him just getting used to them?
He is feeding every 1.5 to 3 hours- never more than 3. Does this all sound ok? Normal?

Timings and amounts sound about right. It’s very early to be using size 2 years though - just be wary of thinking that you need to increase the amount in the bottle too soon when it’s actually just that it’s all draining out so fast. Newborns do take ages to feed. It’s normal!! Read up on paces feeding.

Thank you - I was a bit worried about the teats but when I re questioned it with HV she said it’s quite normal. I think I might try a size 1 again this morning and see how he is after the feed because he was very easy to burp and hardly sick when we were using those.

I also have a 2 week old FF baby. If he's struggling with size 1 teats, try variflow if they are available for your bottles. Size 2 can be too fast and cause a load of issues whereas 1 can be too slow for lazy eaters.

We've just moved to variflow teats and the difference in feeding is amazing.

Yes that's fine. I don't go by how many ounces they're "supposed" to have, I used to just feed him until he stopped or til he didn't want anymore.

Try and burp him after every ounce and see if that reduces the wind and sickness? Not sure if these are the bottles you use but my son was on MAM anti colic bottles which worked wonders for wind and sickness! It all completely stopped as soon as I switched to them.

Oh those are the bottles we are using! I really like them! Not sure they do variflow teats though. The one with the X cut in it says for 6 months plus...

Another vote for Mam anti colic bottles, their tests are quite fast so a 1 will be fine for your baby. Also try Infacol. A bit of wind and sick up is normal for this age but if it doesn't improve you could try a different brand of formula, sometimes it takes a while to find the best fit and no they aren't all exactly the same before anyone pipes up as any FF mum will tell you.

HiPP Organic formula stopped the sickness and wind for my son. Smells far better than the other formulas as well! It was more lighter and creamier. He was previously on cow and gate and Aptamil - both of them made him suffer with colic and reflux.

Great! We are using HiPP organic and it seems great so far. I think I am going to try size 1 teats again for the day today and see how we go. He has also picked up a cold from DS1 and I know that can make them sick but I don’t want him to feel like he’s drowning if the size 2’s are too quick. I had so much worry with DS1 whether was he getting enough milk from me etc it was one of the reasons I decided to FF this time - however still the same amount of worry! Just want to make sure I’m getting everything right for him! Smile
