Infant feeding

My Baby isn't that interested in her feeds | 6 weeks old | Formula Fed

Hi all,

My baby is 6 weeks old, super content and sleeps very well, she's on a good routine and is very alert when awake.

Since birth she's never been that interested in her feeds, she will feed approx 4oz a feed, usually taking 2.5oz quickly and then a real push to get her to finish the rest.
Today at her 2pm feed, she just chewed on the teat and didn't really want it. She was happy, looking around but just didn't want her feed.

The health visitor said she's not putting on as much weight as she would hope, but she is putting on weight and she's not worried.

I've upped her teat size so it's not that and I've tried different bottles.

Has anyone had similar experiences?
Thank you in advance xx

I would stop forcing her to finish bottles! That's not good for her and is likely to put her off feeding.
2.5oz is plenty for a tiny baby. I would offer 3oz bottles and stop when she has had enough.
How much does she weigh?

Hi @Orlande

Thank you for your reply,

I don't force her to finish, I just sit with her for a while as she very slowly drinks.l but she's very disinterested.
She currently weighs 9lb 4 and was 7lb 15 at birth and is 7 weeks in 2 days.

I think that maybe she's just not a very hungry baby and is content with the amount she is taking. Health visitors always make you feel so bad!

Do you feed her on routine or demand? Could it be that she needs to feed more frequently, taking the smaller amounts that are normal for her?

4oz is quite a lot at 6 weeks no? DD is 11 weeks old and quite often only takes 4oz although it does vary from 4-6 depending on how long it's been since her last feed.

I'd stick with 3oz for now, it's plenty at 6 weeks and you'll waste less formula. Take it at her pace.

@Dragon3 @lifechangesforever thank you, I agree :) as long as she's happy I think that's all that matters. I'll just make sure I weigh her at the clinic often to make sure she's putting on weight.

Thank you for your help

I think that's a good plan Bearymama. Keep an eye on her weight and nappy output. If she is thriving, there's no need to worry.
