Accidentally gave 9 month old honey!

I can't believe I've done this.

I just gave 9 month old dd a small amount of my yogurt from the end of my spoon and it had a bit of honey in it. I'm absolutely kicking myself. I've looked up symptoms of infant botulism to look out for, is there anything else I could/should do?

Highly unlikely to be worth worrying about. The honey in a manufactured yog will have been pasteurised and processed and therefore free of botulism. If in doubt call the manufacturers of the yog - most packaged foods have an info number on the packaging itself.

Ok, call the manufacturers of the honey. Most branded non-raw non-natural state honey is pasteurised.

Infant botulism is incredibly rare.

I wouldn't remotely worry about this, it's totally fine! Don't do anything, definitely don't call the manufacturers, that's a bonkers idea. She'll be fine!

I've just looked it up and it's very rare, botulism, I honestly wouldn't worry.

Honestly the chances of anything bad happening here are miniscule. If you want to look up the symptoms of botulism so that you know what to look out for (I don't even really know what botulism is?!) then do, but don't stress that she has caught it. She will be fine

I did this, well my husband did with some help from his Nan. They gave it her because she had a sore throat 🤦‍♀️ Anyway don't panic we called 111 and they said it is really really rare for there to be any issues and just to keep an eye on her.

Yeah my youngest had her first food honey coated....was on my lap on Christmas Day and grabbed a honey roast parsnip off my plate and pushed it in.

She was fine. And we started BLW there and them.

P.s. pasteurization doesn't kill off the spores so that wouldn't help. For a PP, honey shouldn't be given to babies under the age of 1 due to a small risk of infant botulism

And yes as possible said the spores aren't killed by pasteurisation, that is why they say to avoid it until 12+ months old.

Dd2 was given honey as a newborn by a family member. Apparently it is a cultural thing when new baby visits their house they are given honey and oil on their head. Only they didnt do the oil bit because they thought i wouldn't like it I panicked about it for weeks but she was fine.
