So I am expressing for 7wo DTs and have managed to give my nipples some type of friction burn/ overuse injury. Have heard good things about Jelonet so bought some off Amazon - but how to use it?!

No first hand experience, but my nct teacher said you put Lansinoh nipple cream (or similar) on the nipple, then cut a square of jelonet and put it over the top. Then a breast pad on top of that, then your nursing bra. Reapply the cream and replace the jelonet after each feed.

Aahh Jelonet!! My only experience is using it for burns, grazes and skin that’s sheared off...so you might include your nips in that lot! BUT...although it’s great as an immediate dressing to stop wounds drying out and scabbing over, it can dry quickly in open air. Once it dries it’s hell to remove! So could cause more damage. Also, I seem to recall it’s got a high paraffin content, I think. Only ever used it as a quick fix in A&E to tied over until a plastics team came along. Never heard the tip about using it under a breast pad though. That would slow down the drying out...but I’d keep it away from the delicate nipple area.

What about barrier films? There are a lot on the market so you may be able to get them on prescription. Brands like Cavilon, Sorbederm, there’s quite a few. Might be worth asking a pharmacist. They are a clear barrier that goes on to the skin, and come as wipes, sprays or spongy lollipop things. I’ve used them on sore bums, friction rashes under breasts and tummy aprons...very handy!

Tiny smear of Vaseline works well too.

With jelonet you just cut a tiny square with v clean scissors, remove the backing paper from both sides, and stick it over your nipple. Then put a breastpad over it in your bra. Change at each feed.

Check you have the right size flanges for your nipples (the funnel bit of the pump) -they come in differ to diameters (like nipples) and if yours are too small then you can indeed get friction burns, ouch!

I was recommended this by our local breastfeeding clinic when I had trauma from breastfeeding, just cut a small square off and put it on the damaged part of your nipple. Then wash the nipple quickly before expressing/feeding. It really did help me recover quickly.

I have, was ok but no better than lanisoh and you have to wipe it off before a feed. Expensive too.

Not sure about jelonet but found multimam compresses good (can get from boots), cut them in half too as they're bigger than needed.

Good to hear. I hope things are more comfy now and well done for keeping going. Expressing takes a fair bit of commitment, let alone with that sort of soreness, and twins too! I hope you are managing to enjoy them and have some good support.
