Can a 8 month old have gravy?

In general and also as a one off?

Yes, I do see why not. Is it the salt you're concerned about?

Do you still get baby gravy? It existed when mine were small

Its the salt content you need to look out for so if you use low or no salt stock or just give a very small amount its ok

Thanks. Yes, it's just the salt I'm worried about.

We're making mince and dumplings for tea and I wondered if I could blend some of the mince for her to go with the veg...

Not sure why you're still blending things at 8mo?

I'm certainly not, 8mo DS copes fine with soft pieces of food now

OlennasWimple · 12/03/2018 20:51

Yes, it's fine

Maybe not every day, but it's fine

@arbrighton it’s common to still be blending things for that age, and older, no need to be snarky.

We have a roast once a week and DD gets a bit of everything including a splash of gravy. She doesn't have much salt the rest of the time.

Agree with a pp though I wouldn't be blending anything, let alone mince at 8 months.

I give my DD the low(er) salt Bisto stuff about once a week on average. She loves it!

maurice

NO, it's really not.... and they're mostly perfectly able to cope with lumps if not just actual food by that age.

I've never blended ANYTHING.... DS has had lasagne as is etc at about 7mo

I still blended when DD was 8 months old especially with things like meat etc. Not everyone has to do things your way arbrighton

Yes just give a small amount of normal gravy (maybe a table or dessert spoon) she can have up to 1g salt a day. You would need quite a big portion of gravy to get 1g salt (about 100ml)

Why is there ALWAYS someone who wants to let the world know that their parenting way is the best and only way? Honestly.

Blend or don't blend. There are babies starving in the world, let's just be grateful to have the option to blend or not, shall we?

Sorry OP.

Gravy shouldn't be a problem and like others have suggested, watch the salt content.

My DC had blended food at that age as they had very sensitive gag reflexes and would be sick if there were any lumps....fun times Confused

Gravy once in awhile is fine.

If she’s used to blended things then it would make a lovely rich gravy to go with her veg and absolutely fine if made with low salt stock or similar, still OK if normal gravy but I’d probably watch out to avoid salt in anything else for the rest of the day.
Mince is probably a good thing to introvert texture with too though when it’s broken up very finely - you could give her a few smallish lumps through the purée. Dumplings also sound like great finger food to me!
DS went back and forth from only eating things he could do himself and batting away a spoon to wanting to be fed mush and back again several times. By 10 months at Nursery he pretty much fed himself and anything they gave him. I’m sure whichever way you do it works out fine in the end.

Baby struggles with the texture of mince hence why I want to blend it. He doesn't have other things blended (not that I need to explain it to you)

Your mummy medal is in the post @arbrighton along with a medium rare steak dinner for your little one 👏🏼

Thanks everyone else for the advice 😀

@arbrighton, again, there’s no need to be snarky in your responses. I assure you it is common for people to blend some or all food at 8 months. The fact that you don’t do it does not prove it is not common. If OP wants to blend the mince then she can!

I still blend some meals for my 2.5 yr old! Haha She hates the texture of chicken (for example). You do what you need to do right...?!

Re gravy I bought gravy specifically for babies from Boots I think! But normal gravy is fine occasionally it’s just the salt content that you need to watch.

I make cottage pies, stews etc with stock and a bit of Tom puree rather than gravy powder.

I mash the mince for DS sometimes too and he's 14months so don't worry. I use the but masher so it still has a texture but not too much.

You can also get stock cubes and gravy designed for babies now :)
