Hungry milk and reflux

Hi. I have been told by doctor that my baby has reflux. He was having 8 oz bottles every 3-4 hours. She told me to reduce his feeds as he was having too much and it was affecting his reflux. The problem is he is a hungry baby and wants more at each feed. He is now having 5 oz every 2-3 hours which is going to add up to too much milk anyway surely?? I’m debating starting hungry milk so he seems fuller for longer and hopefully settle down his reflux as won’t be wanting and taking so much milk?? Any advice?

You should know how much milk he needs by his weight. USe the formula box as a guide or check online. How old is he? Is reflux out of control? If feeding excessively it will be to soothe the acid coming up- so a vicious cycle. Excess milk will not help - your doctor is right. It might be time to look at baby Gaviscon or meds.

How old is he? How heavy is he?

Over filled Tummy's will cause to be sick. Reflux is a pain. Both of mine had it

He is nearly 15 lbs and 10 weeks 4 days. They won’t give me meds until I have tried reducing feeds for a week but he has never been satisfied on regular milk that’s why he was taken so many oz but I know that it isn’t helping the reflux problem. He has been screaming for days and not sleeping because in pain with reflux. And now I’ve reduced feeds he seems unsatisfied and looking for food constantly!

My 3 ds all had/have reflux

I don’t think you should limit such a small babies feeds ! The gp should offer some medication id go back and ask again or see a different gp

Reflux babies drink more as it helps with the discomfort. Reducing feeds seems cruel I’d be going back as they should be trying meds not making a baby suffer ! You really have to push for help sadly
I’m the meantime like a pp suggested you could try an anti reflux milk
Hope things improve and that you can find a less dismissive dr as the advice they’ve given doesn’t seem right

I think ungrier baby milk is heavier which is why it helps.

My four month old baby has been suffering terribly with reflux and I have just tried Aptamil anti reflux milk and it is working wonders, her sickness has almost completely stopped and as it is thicker, she drinks less. I am combination feeding but find that using this formula for top ups has done the trick.

I have heard that it is possible to get anti reflux formula on prescription but not sure if that is right. Can anyone else say if that is correct please?

Good luck, reflux is such an ordeal for the little ones.
