Start using Mumsnet PremiumBreastfeeding plus weaning onto solids routine at 6 months?
(5 Posts)Hi, my 6 month old has been weaning onto solids slowly from 5 months (he was showing all the signs) he's breastfed & is a big boy - 95th centile.
He's never slept through, & I'm not too worried about that.. I just feel that maybe he's taking too much milk on top of solids?
Here's an example of an average day:
630/7 wake up small breastfeed (he usually feeds back to sleep around 5am so never starving)
8am breakfast
830 School run, falls asleep in pram around 9 for 45 mins ish
10 some activity or play at home
1130 breastfeed to sleep, sleeps 45mins - 1hr 30
130-2 lunch puree
3 School run, may fall asleep on way home.. if not
415 breast feed to sleep for 40 min ish nap
530 tea
6 bath
7pm feed & bed... he never seems very hungry at this feed tho & is often up & down till feeding properly around 930.
Any ideas? Thanks
Missed out a breastfeed after first nap 🙊
It's good for them to have more milk than solids at first - feeds should start to reduce around 9 months ish. Until then they should be on as much milk as they had when starting solids. Food is just a supplement to milk until this point.
Milk is most of nutrition til 1 and it is perfectly normal for them to keep feeding a lot until at least they are on three solid meals a day (i.e. not just a bit of puree!!)
Ah ok, thank you! I'll stop worrying in that case! I really enjoy our little booby afternoon nap snuggled up 🙈, didn't want it to have to stop! X
