hello my dh gives my 9wk old ds a bottle of ebm using a dr brown's bottle to reduce wind but for the last few nights says ds has been gulping in loads of air as he feeds -dh thinks the milk isn't coming out fast enough for ds who has a really strong suck -shoul we try the next teat up -medium flow? i think it's supposed to be from 3 months but dds has always been like a barracuda!

he current;y weighs 12 lb 9 -any thoughts?

Dr Brown's bottles are supposed to make it difficult to gulp down air I used Dr Brown's for my dd, who used to suck like a vacuum cleaner, but I persevered with the newborn teats because if she downed her bottle too fast, she tended to be spectacularly sick. However, she was rather smaller than your ds at 9 weeks. So if you feel that faster teats would help your ds, then I don't see any harm in trying. Btw, my dh tended to try to hold the bottle horizontal when feeding dd, and took a lot of persuading that it needed to be more upright otherwise she took in lots of air - maybe discretely check that your dh isn't doing the same?

We moved to the level 2 teat several weeks before three months and ds did much better with it. I think that he was sucking so hard on the level 1, that he was taking in extra air somehow. Now, if a Level 1 ever ends up on the bottle by accident I can tell because the sucking is much noiser. DS is now 4 months and the level 2 still works well for him.

we have changed to the level 2 teats but now DS doesn' t seem as interested in his bottle feeds -he's only taking half the EBM around 2 -3 oz when normally he has 5.

He hasn't had a dirty nappy for the last 30 hours or so and seems to be straining a lot as if he wants to go.

could the two things be connected? What should we do? the bottle feed at night has been a godsend for me as DH does it so i get a little more sleep but now DH says he doesn't seem to want it.

Help please!
