Questions about switching to Cows Milk

Hi All,
My little one is now 11 months and we are going to completely swap to cows milk when this box of formula runs out. He's ok with it in his breakfast etc so planning on a complete swap straight away.

Do I have to continue sterilising bottles when using cows milk or can I just wash them with fairy and dry them with kitchen towel?

Also, when should you stop giving milk in a bottle and change to a cup/beaker? He has water/juice from a free flow cup with no issues.

Thanks for the advice :)

I don't think you need to sterilise after 6 months do you? Bottles are supposed to be dropped by 12 months.

I stopped sterilising at six months.

She was happily licking the floor/ dog by that point and I figured that a good scrub with hot water and washing up liquid for bottles was more than adequate.

If your DS is already happily drinking out of a beaker I would just start using that. You could start now with milk in beakers instead of juice before your formula runs out. Bottles aren't hugely good for teeth so the sooner you can drop them the better.

We had got down to 2 bottles a day. Morning and night. He had cows milk in a cup in the middle of the day, although he never drank much.

We swapped the morning bottle for a cup of cows milk with breakfast first at around 12 months.

A week or so later we started mixing the bedtime bottle with cows milk (tried just swapping and he hated it, but I’d try that first if I were you) and gradually over about a week it became just warm cows milk.

We kept the bedtime bottle until he was about 15 months as we were going on hol etc and wanted to make sure he actually drank it. Plus it was a comfort and bedtime routine for him.

I didn’t sterilize once we were not using formula. And I wasn’t obsessive about it once he was over about 6 months.

DD refused to breastfeed ever again, just before she turned 1. I gave her cow's milk in a Tommee Tippee cup, morning and night. She took a little while to get used to it and had funny grey poo for a week or so, but soon got used to it.
