Antibodies in breastmilk

Hoping for some Mumsnet wisdom.

DD is 11 weeks old and breastfed in the main with top ups in the evening.

I've got a nasty dose of gastro at the moment and I'm worried about her getting it. I'm obviously doing good hygiene etc but I'm not hoping that maybe I will pass some antibodies on to her via feeding so she won't get it?

Does anyone know whether this is a myth?

I had a terrible stomach bug when my baby was about the same age. I was literally vomiting into a bowl while feeding. It was horrid. My son didn't get it! My husband did Blush

This is a good article on Kellymom Smile. Passing antibodies through your BM is definitely not a myth.

Unless you went into seclusion two days before you developed symptoms, she's exposed already and the absolute best thing you can do is keep feeding her and let your antibodies protect her. It's definitely not a myth that they will pass through your milk. Your body will even make antibodies for things that are in HER body and not yours if necessary.

My babies never caught anything I had while I was breastfeeding them.

Thanks all... That's reassuring. I've felt so bad and am worried enough about passing it on to my toddler let alone a tiny newborn! Fingers crossed she doesn't get it.

Thanks again.

I’m sure she will be fine, just make sure you drink plenty. Love the name too Smile
