Start using Mumsnet PremiumIs my 1 week old feeding enough
(5 Posts)Ok so little one is one week today and weighed 6lb6oz at birth. Yesterday she was weighed again and only dropped to 6lb4oz phew. My issue is when she was in hospital she was taking 1oz and still a week later is still only taking this amount every 3 hours. My midwife doesn't seem concerned but I feel 8oz or a little more in 24 hours doesn't seem alot. She literally feeds then sleeps. How long does it take for there stomachs to tolerate more. TIA
Not sure but if your me is happy then I'm sure what you're doing is fine! First few weeks feels like constant feeding!
Not sure about newborns but I always thought it was 2.5 floz per pound of weight in 24 hours. So by that calculation it would normally be 15floz. Like I said though, not sure if this applies to newborns.
Is she very sleepy when you try and feed her? Is she having plenty of wet and dirty nappies?
If she's producing wet/dirty nappies, is putting on weight along a centile and otherwise seems well then don't worry about the exact amounts that you're giving her.
How is she feeding now @Lisavickers?
