We've spent weeks researching and testing breast pumps and bottles in real homes with real families. Read our baby feeding bottle and breast pump reviews to find out which ones were awarded Mumsnet Best.

(7 Posts)Hi,
I EBF for the first 8 months and stopped last week because I'm due back at work next week.
Thing is, I've never bottle fed a baby before.
I googled it and it said between 25-32 ounces of milk a day.
So I've divided this by how many feeds he normally has but he doesn't seem as hungry?
So on the boob he used to have a feed at 6am, 9am, 1pm, 4pm and 7pm.
I've tried to stick to this with formula but he just doesn't seem to want the 4pm feed.
Obviously I don't want to force it on him so wondering i should give him smaller amounts during the day?
He is weaning too so has 3 sort of meals a day (spoon fed breakfast, BLW lunch and a mixture for tea) so not sure if that makes a difference?
I'm just confused...
They only need a minimum of 20oz from 6- 12 months so maybe he doesn't need 5 feeds. At that age I gave feeds at 7, 11, 3, 7 with food at 8, 12, 5
At that age I used to do a bottle on waking and one prior to each sleep.
Mine was having 3 bottles a day at that age. One on waking, one mid afternoon and one at bedtime. 7oz in each but rarely finished them. Ate plenty of dairy and had a daily multivitamin.
My DD is almost 8 months, she's a late waker (still asleep now) so we do this to fit three meals in
9am breakfast
10am7oz bottle
12 dinner
2pm 7 oz bottle
5pm tea
7:30pm 7oz bottle before bed.
Just follow his lead maybe give him the morning and night ones and see when he asks for it during the day.
Mine only had 2 bottles a day at that age. They were eating a lot though.
Thanks peeps.
The only reason I kept the amount of feeds was to try and match when he would have had boob, but it seems to fill him up for longer.
He's also been more fussy with food than he was before.... again perhaps because he's fuller?
I'll try a higher volume less regularly x
