How long did you breastfeed for?

Just that really, some people say to do it for 6 months then wean and some say 2 years, so I'm wondering what the average was and when most people found it "normal" to stop feeding and start the weaning process?

I want to BF for as long as possible but have no clue what's considered a normal amount of time to do it for!

I breastfed both my DS's for around 7 months. Was not my decision to stop but had complications with both (tongue ties) and so had to introduce some formula.

16 months for my first, 6 months for my second. There is no "normal" time to stop, each baby is different. It's entirely up to you whether you do 6 days or 6 years.

I fed DD for 28 months.
Who cares what's "normal"? It's however long you both are happy with.

DS is 11 months and still going, although he's reduced right down to 2-3 feeds a day. Initially my aim was to continue til he's one so that I didn't have to switch to formula, and avoid all the hassle and expense! I'm not sure how long I'll continue for, I'm not going back to work so I'm able to be a bit more baby-led with weaning, however pretty sure I want to stop by 2-ish, maybe - I'm just seeing how it goes.

Why be led by what other people think is normal... we're all different

I bf for 11 months each time but know people who (by choice) stopped at 6 weeks and people who are still BFing after 2 yrs plus. Depends how you are feeling about it and any practical considerations really.

2 years 1 month with the 1st, 20 months with the 2nd (would have gone longer but kept getting the aren't they to old for that comments which made me doubt myself) with number 3 I plan to go past 2 and not listen to the opinion's of others.

You'll probably get 25 pages of all kinds of lengths of time. Six months for some, days or years for others.

It's what's normal and feels right for you that counts 😊

(dd1 2 years 2 months, dd2 11 and a 1/2 months and counting)

Dd1 4 years (I gently weaned her as I was having increasing nursing aversion)
Dd2 2.5 years (she self weaned while I was pregnant) and tandem fed with dd1 for 2 years of that
DS still feeding at 9 months.

I breastfed for 3 years and dd stopped when she was ready. Wasn't really planning on feeding her for so long but it just felt right and although I couldn't feed in public (massive boobs and rugby gold needed so nothing remotely discreet about it!) and it was a bind, I'm glad I did. If I have another baby however, I plan to try much harder to mix bottles with expressed milk and breast. I was exhausted.

DD1 13 months
DD2 23 months and I only stopped because my shoulder was out of whack and the BF was exacerbating it - we would still be going otherwise

I stopped feeding DC1 at 9 months because she kept exposing me in public and biting me! Cheeky monkey.

DC2 stopped himself at 12/13 months. By then he was drinking his milk from cups during the day. Then one night I went to bf at bed time as usual and he just gave me a Hmm look and pushed me away. I was mortified!
