Infant feeding

Think I have too much milk? Feeding problems :(

Dd is nearly three weeks old. After a great start to feeding, things seem to have declined since my milk came in.
She has started to make slurping sounds at the breast, which suggest that she does not have a good seal, and is becoming very windy. This was not present in the first few days, but is a new development, and very frustrating. I don't think she has a tongue tie, as she is able to poke her tongue right out with no problem at all, and had a fabulous latch before my milk properly started to come in.
She now feeds only for around 10-15 minutes, having started off initially with good 30-40 minute feeds.
My boobs feel full regardless of how often she feeds, and always seem engorged at night, even though she wakes for 2-3hrly feeds. I have regular, strong spontaneous letdowns during the day from both breasts, and leak a lot from the unused breast when feeding.
If I take her off in the first minute of feeding I can see that my letdown is strong, several spurting streaks and a heavy fast drip also.

Am I making more than she can cope with? Would that account for the slurping latch that she has developed? What can I do to help the situation?
Thank you!!

You could try a warm flannel then express small amount by hand to reduce tension in breast. She might latch better then. It will settle soon as baby and breast match each other's needs.

Thank you...would hand expressing make the over supply a bit worse in the short term?

Hiya, I had the same problem last time and think I'm heading down the same route again this time (baby is only a week old so we'll see). I don't have loads of advice, but it did eventually resolve itself and my body finally regulated and made the right amount of milk, although it did take several months. I did try lying back when feeding, so lying back on the sofa for example, as gravity can help, even if that sounds silly.
You can do something called block feeding to reduce supply, where you feed off one side for a certain time, then move to the other, etc, but look on kellymom for more info.
I hope things get better for you.

IME you just need the glut of milk stage to ride out. I have bfed 2 babes for the last 4 years and all you can do is hope theyre not too freaked out by the forceful letdown and press on. Its a minor blip and your milk supply will stabilise soon. Good luck.

Thank you both, that's really helpful and reassuring. I have read a bit about the block feeding and am going to give it a try over the next couple of days.

I don't mean expressing loads just enough to soften breast to allow good latching.
