Infacol - safe?

Hi

I've given my 10 day old dd Infacol as she had really bad colic for 5 nights straight. Tonight she is so much calmer and better and is sleeping now. We are on tenterhooks waiting for her to wake and for it all to start again..

While we should enjoy that colic has gone for the night, I'm now worried we have drugged her? She's sleeping so soundly and looks a little dazed when she's awake?

She's only took it for 2 days and we've followed instructions, it even says it's safe but wanted to get other thoughts

It's just a burp releaser, I can't think of any reason why it would cause drowsiness. Maybe she's just sleeping deeply because she's finally comfortable?

It is totally safe. She's sleeping easy because she's not uncomfortable any more. Go to sleep yourself while she's asleep and don't worry.

Remember that with infacol it is a cumulative effect, so keep going with it, don't stop, thinking that it's done the trick and not required any longer!

My understanding is that nothing's actually absorbed from the infacol, it just helps the small air bubbles collect into a big one that's easy to release then passes through the gut and that's the reason it's suitable to use from birth. Sounds like your baby's just happy to be rid of the wind

It doesn't advise how long on the dosing instructions OP. We used it until 4 weeks then went over to gripe water as infacol didn't quite hit the spot for our wee one. I guess it's just trying to stop it and see how you get on.

Infacol does not work systemically i.e. It's not a drug working on the body. It works on the air in the tummy.

Having said that, there is no proper evidence it helps - babies who appear to improve prob would have improved anyway.

It's safe, but mostly useless, in fact :)

I remember using infacol on dd1. It's absolutely safe to use and has no drugs in it so no chance of overdosing or hurting baby. Enjoy the calm!
