Infant feeding

Maintain milk supply while reducing feeds

My ds is 19 months, still breastfeeds. I've always struggled with supply and I'm wondering if anyone else had managed to maintain a milk supply once baby drops down to just 2 feeds a day. I'm worried the milk will disappear, up until now baby has fed very frequently. Has any ones milk just dries up before baby is ready to self wean.

Thanks very much in advance

Your body should keep up with the demand your baby needs so as long as your baby consistently has those two feeds (or more) your body should produce it. So make sure every day the feeds stay the same as much as possible and you should be fine.

This far in your supply will very much be on demand. I really would not worry about it. Most women still make milk for at least a few months after their child last breastfeeds.

I just feed at night now and it seems to have adjusted - it doesn't poor out during the day but it's there at night. As long as any change is gradual I think your body adjusts x

My ds fed last thing at night and first thing in the morning until he was 2.5 and I weaned him. Was fine!

Your supply will just adjust to your DS feeds so if he gets sick for example and wants to feed really frequently then you will make enough milk for him.
