Feeding trouble & tears

My first child is 14 weeks old. He's always been a good feeder. The past 7 days or so has been a challenge.

Every time he tries to latch onto the bottle he sobs his heart out, goes red in the face & gets really worked up. He latches on but then spits it out & reacts like this.
After about 5 - 10 mins of trying & comforting he will than latch on & feed as normal. I stop half way to wipe his chin & wind him & he will latch straight back on no problem. He winds well & easily after each feed.

I haven't changed the formula, the way I make them, the bottles, the way I clean them so I have no idea why this has started.

I can't see any visible sores or anything in his mouth. He's otherwise happy, smiley, playful. Sleeping well & otherwise healthy.

This has knocked my confidence with being able to go out & know I can feed him & also is breaking my heart everytime he sobs in such a way when he's clearly hungry & wants the bottle.

Has anyone else had this issue? Is it a phase? Worth a trip to the doctor? I'm at a complete loss as to why he's reacting like this or how to help fix whatever the issue may be.

He is young but could he be teething? It might be worth putting a teething gel on his gums, like Dentinox, before his next feed and see if it helps.

It might be worth asking MNHQ to move your thread to Infant Feeding to see if anyone on there has a similar experience smile

Thank you Jilted. I'll ask for it to be moved

How are you getting on today Choco? Did you give the teething gel a try?

I could have written this post; I've just written a similar thing- I'm also having a nightmare. I have seen the doctors and they can't see anything; possibly teething, possibly a phase, possibly needing to be weaned... i can totally relate to not wanting to go out, I've become a hermit at the moment! In a way it's a relief to read someone else whose having the same experience as I thought it was me!

Have either of you read up on tongue tie? It could be an issue smile
