Terrified to follow dietician's advice!

My DS is 11 weeks old and has a very sensitive cows milk allergy.
We were first advised to give him Aptamil Pepti formula which is cows-milk based, but the proteins are extensively hydrolysed to reduce the chance of a reaction. DS still reacted to this and was very poorly. We were then given Neocate LCP - an amino-acid based formula. He has been like a different baby since being on this formula! No allergy symptoms whatsoever.
Follow-up appointment with the dietician today. She want me to start introducing the Aptamil Pepti again to see if his body can learn to tolerate it. She said to mix 3oz of Neocate with 1oz of Aptamil Pepti for a few days and see if he reacts
I'm really reluctant to do this! He was really poorly last time we gave him the Aptamil Pepti I can't bear the thought of making him ill again, as he was in pain all the time
She said she will ring me in a week to see how we get on. She said if he reacts to the Aptamil again - which I'm sure he will, considering it's only been a few weeks since he last reacted to it - then we should continue with just the Neocate until his first birthday, then start tackling the top end of the Milk Ladder. I'm really tempted to just stick with the Neocate rather than risk making my baby so poorly again!
What would you do?

Is there a reason why the dietician wants to trial the Aptamil again so soon?

I would be asking why it couldn't wait. 11 weeks is very young, and to re-trial only a few weeks after an unsuccessful attempt sounds harsh. Unless there is a sound reason why it should be pushed.

Could it be so that he very slowly builds up a tolerance. A friend of mine had a very allergic baby and I'm sure they reintroduced extremely slowly.
I know what you mean though my DD is 5 and allergic to tomato orange paprika cats and all parabens
She would love to try tomato again but I don't want to have her red raw and scratching

Panda that's my biggest concern
She said so many babies are "misdiagnosed" with allergies! Even though my DS's allergy symptoms read like a medical textbook It seemed like a very rushed appointment and she seemed like she had a "one size fits all" solution rather than a solution tailored to my ds's needs!

It's because it's down to money...
I would try it just a single bottle and see- reactions can take 24-48 hours so I'd go easy other than that. You can buy neocate online if you don't have a script for enough but keep on at your GP some are far mor supportive than others

I would really really such to your gut instinct here. I don't see there is anything to be gained by re introducing at this early stage. Even Amery specialists in the nhsv have massive gaps in their knowledge ime, and now that you have found a way to keep your baby happy and health, I would stick to it like glue!

How qualified is your dietician? I would also be reluctant to change what is working for you without very sound reasoning behind that change.
I would keep going with the Neocate for now and either get your dietician to explain to you why you should reintroduce the Aptamil or get a second opinion. Your baby is tiny and not a guinea pig!

Ds1 had a milk allergy. We cut out milk completely until he was 1. He then had an allergy test. The allergy was still there so he had no milk until 2. Only then did we start to do the milk ladder.
11 weeks is ridiculously early. Trust your gut

That sounds mad. I'd definitely get a second opinion. What are the risks of staying solely on neocate? There are definite risks to upsetting the apple cart, not least a sick baby, faltering growth and feed refusal. You really, really don't want to go there. It can be nightmarish to deal with.

I think the "risks" of staying on Neocate is that it costs around £38 per tub and the Aptamil Pepti is around £28 per tub seems like a money-saving exercise to me.
I haven't given him any of the Aptamil. Just stuck with the Neocate. There's no way I'm risking him getting so poorly again just to save the NHS a few quid
