Latching problems

Help!!
Baby is 7 days - she is my third breast fed baby.

But we are struggling with the latch. I think it's too shallow.

I've had a c section so it's been painful to feed but are there any positions which work better for a shallow latch?

My poor nipples are battered!

Have you tried nipple Shields? They really helped my baby get started. I used them to start a feed and then whipped them off mid feed. Only had to use them a few days and I am still breastfeeding now 8 months later.

No I haven't. I might take a walk up the shops tomorrow and see if I can get some- thank you

Rugby ball is suggested for c section. Ring midwife tomorrow and get them to come out to help with feeding and check for tongue tie.

It maybe worth contacting LLL.

I second getting tongue tie checked and contacting LLL. There may even be a local BF team near you who will come out and assess. Hope you get it sorted.

Apparently her latch is fine and she doesn't have tongue tie as I have asked for it to be checked.

I just had a better feed on one side. But it's still painful on the other - I can't work out though if it would still be painful even if I managed to sort her latch.
From day one on the worst side she makes a sort of clicking or slurping sound!

Also am I meant to offer both sides of just one?

Dc3 struggled to latch on one side if my boob was too full. Could you try expressing a bit first?

Get the tongue tie checked again. It was only when a breast feeding specialist midwife looked that it was identified in my DD. This was the third time she was checked for tongue tie. Her initial latch was fine, the midwives would check she was on OK and then go but - few minutes later she would slide to the end of my boob and cause damage.

Yes to offering the second boob when with the first.

I wasn't engorged either, but full enough for her not to get a good mouthful.
