Breastfeeding with augmented boobs

Hi everyone,
NC for anonymity... sorry.
I am 6 months pregnant and starting to get everything organised for birth of DD1/my pfb. I would love to know if you have had a boob job in the past and how you got on with breastfeeding? Did it effect your ability? The supply? Or did it put you off from even trying?

I would love to breastfeed my baby but I'm nervous and my midwife doesn't have any answers, in fact she seems to hide away from discussing it.

It will depend on the type of surgery you had but the overwhelming majority of techniques ought to have no bearing on your ability to bf. I have heard of decreased nipple sensitivity being a potential barrier to the stimulation required for a letdown, but there is also some evidence to suggest that the body adapts to decreased sensitivity. Just be as prepared as you can be. I don't have augmented breasts but I did have some tissue removed when I was a teenager. I am ebf-ing successfully. Read up lots. LLL and kellymom are great resources.

my high profiles made it very difficult for baby to latch, esp in the begin if when boobs are massive and hard and constantly full. Both my bf journey's failed owing to the implants IMO.

Hi OP

I had augmentation 9 years ago and am still bf 2.2 yo dd. Not had any problems with feeding. Had mastitis 4 times but that won't have been caused by the implants.

My boobs are ruined now though Sad I should have got proper nursing bras but I didn't and only wore sports bras, if anything! Not entirely sure it wouldn't have happened anyway even if I didn't have implants, but the dd cup jugs won't have helped lol.

I had my boobs done 8.5 years ago, under the muscle implants.

I BFed ds2 until he was two in 2009-2011 and now bfing dc3.

Re "ruining them", not at all. Hopefully pp will find the same- they did feel a bit empty when i first stopped- exactly like when i bfed ds1, BUT inside a year they had "filled" again. Its the fat stores between the milk glands that deplete and then come back. I could happily go topless etc, they were cracking! Grin

Good luck!
