Infant feeding

I can't be over feeding my BF baby, can I?

DS is 4 weeks old, was 8lb1 at birth, born at 36+6

Am BF on demand, and he takes a 4-5oz bottle of either expressed milk or formula in a bottle from his dad for either his last 'bedtime' feed or for the middle of the night one. He only really wakes up once or twice through the night.

Have weighed DS today, he's 10lb 11! This seems bloody enormous and a big weight gain?

I'd presumed I couldn't over feed him with BFing, my other 3DC took a good while to regain birth weight and didn't seem to gain so quickly? Should add we don't make him finish his bottle if he doesn't want and he's not a comfort sucker...

Help!

Actually that looks pretty normal to me. 8.1lb at birth is just over the 50th centile and 10lb11oz is between 75th and 91st centile. It's considered normal as long as the weight gain is within 2 centile markers.

You will probably find he puts on weight in spurts and after 12 weeks it should settle down to a steady weight gain. Breast fed babies do regulate their intake and as long as he is happy and healthy and producing lots of wet nappies I really wouldn't worry about it at all.

Thank you- you'd think by DC4 I'd have learnt to stop worrying so much!

No you can't. Don't let people tell you otherwise it could cause problems for both of you.
Mastitis
Blocked ducts
Inadequate weight gain

Sounds like you're doing amazing Flowers
