FF baby crying during a feed

Hi all,

FTM so I am after some advice please. Since yesterday evening my 3 week old LG has been crying during a feed. She arches her back whilst doing this like she's in pain so I take the bottle out and within seconds she's putting her hands back in her mouth as if she wants more milk but does it again. I've winded her and she does bring burps up (although she doesn't burp after every feed) and also farts like a trooper during a feed so I don't think it's trapped wind. She doesn't do it every single feed but I would say she's done it 80% of her feeds since yesterday. She's still taking in her normal amount of milk and has plenty of wet nappies and still poos 1-2 times a day....she is also still sleeping plenty. Any ideas on what this could be?? I've read about it maybe being silent reflux?? She's never sick after a feed though...just the occasional tiny bit of spit up.

Sorry for the long lost and thank you in advance Smile x

Do you feed her laid flat or sat up ? Some babies get a choking feeling trying to swallow laying down so like to be fed upright in a sitting position or try feeding her in a bouncer or propped up next to you on cushions

I do prop her up on a feeding cushion so she's at an angle during a feed and I keep her upright for about 20-30 minutes after a feed as she gets hiccups easily. I spend around 20-30 minutes trying to get wind up after every feed (I try all the different winding positions/techniques) but she doesn't always burp.....do you think I need to keep going until she does or is it normal not to burp after every single feed?? X

My baby was like that and it was colic. We moved onto anti colic bottles and put colief in all her bottles and it's improved loads. Although colic does improve as they get older. My baby is now nearly 5 months and we have just weaned her off the colief. Might be worth trying Infacol or colief? You can get colief on prescription because it is expensive.

Try Dr browns bottles a pain to clean apparently but great for any colic she may have

like Happy my DD2 was like that and so we got Dr Brown's bottles...that sorted the issue out immediately.

It sounds like it could be trapped wind or silent reflux, or a bit of both. With silent reflux you wouldn't get milk coming back up again (that's what makes it 'silent'). Wanting the bottle back could be simple frustration (still hungry) or it could be that she wants to suck to soothe the discomfort. I would take her to your GP who will be able to prescribe infant Gaviscon in the first instance to see if it makes a difference.

Thank you everyone. I've had her on infacol since yesterday and can already notice the difference with her bringing wind up. Will give it until Monday and if no improvement I will pop along to the GP.
